Sightseeing in Delhi
Delhi is the capital city of India with a total area of 491 sq km. The city has two well-defined parts, Old Delhi and New Delhi. It is connected well by all means of transport airways, bus and train. It is chilly during winters and extremely hot in summers. The best season for sightseeing is between October and March. Delhi has lots of interesting highlights like Forts, museums, temples and gardens. Many foreign visitors are attracted every year and it is a significant tourist place in India.
Out of some worth mentioning forts and museums in Delhi is the India gate, which was built in memory of 70,000 soldiers who died in the First World War It was designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens. The Red fort, as the name suggests was built with red stones. The Indian history is closely connected with to this fort. Qutub Minar is another monument whose origin is laid in controversy. Some say that it is a tower signifying the victory of Mughal rulers while the others say it was used by the mughals for prayers. However the beauty and majesty of the tower can never be ignored. It is one of the finest forts in the world. There are a vast number of monuments and forts in Delhi and the other significant ones would be the Jantar Mantar, Humayun’s tomb ,Jama Masjid and Rajghat.
The Lakshmi Narayan Mandir was built in 1938 and gives a picture of a vast number of Hindu Gods. You can also watch the priest performing rituals .Lotus temple is a Bahai Temple visited by all tourists visiting Delhi. It is a wonder of modern architecture. The Iskcon has a large number of followers throughout the world and Delhi has one Iskcon temple too. There is also the St. James Church, Bala Hanuman temple and the Chattarpur Mandir Which is worth visiting.
The capital city is full of gardens and parks. The Delhi government is trying hard to keep the city green. The Mughal Garden is located in the President house. During spring the general public is allowed to visit the garden. The Rose Garden has an immense variety of imported roses. The best time to visit would be during December and January. The Delhi zoo is very famous and school children love to trip.
Apart from all these, Delhi is surrounded by states like Rajasthan, Agra, Himalayas and the temple city Varanasi. Delhi is a commercial hub and truly reflects the history of India. Various tours operate functions and the city has an infinite range of accommodation. The city was ruled by different kings and therefore has a variety of traditions and cultures. Needless to say, the city is a favorite tourist spot and it is a perfect destination to enjoy Indian hospitality.
