Also owned by the same association, the stadium is known to have been fabricated by the famous architect and ecologist Mr. Danish Siddiqui and Naval Khanna. It was November 10, 1948 when the first Test match was played at this venue. The participants of the match were India and West Indies.

The Feroz Shah Kotla Cricket Stadium has also been party to Anil Kumble’s ’10 wickets in an inning’ feat in 1999. This is known to be only the second time in the history of test cricket that such an event has occurred. From 2008 onwards, the stadium has been the home ground of the Delhi DareDevils team of the IPL. An ODI match slated between India and Sri Lanka was nevertheless cancelled due to the plight of the pitch here being unfit for a cricket match. This was on December 27, 2009 and the calling off of the match was a result of the match referee’s account of the ground.

Following this, the Kotla stadium ran into a strict sanction that ranged from a ban to a fine. The ban was expected to be anywhere between 12 and 24 months. The stadium is anticipated to host four World Cup matches this year and above 14 months ban would mean the stadium’s forbiddance from this year’s ICC Cricket World Cup. The ICC acted up and had the stadium banned for just 12 months though. Hence the cricket stadium is still part of the many venues participating the 2011 Cricket World Cup.

According to statistics, India has been the most successful team on this cricket stadium. The country has registered a total of 10 wins here. The highest innings score on the Feroz Shah Kotla Cricket Stadium was 644/8 by West Indies. It was February 6, 1959 and India drew with the West Indies. As for the lowest innings score, it was again by West Indies on November 25, 1987. The country finished at 75 all out and India beat them by 5 wickets. 5 teams have won batting first on this ground while 12 teams have won batting last.

The average innings score on this ground is 288 while the most fruitful batsman here has been Dilip Vengsarkar garnering a total of 671 runs. The highest individual score on the Kotla cricket stadium is 230 by Bert Sutcliffe in a match v/s India on December 16, 1955. The match was a draw between India and New Zealand. By the record, Anil Kumble has been the most successful bowler on this ground with a total of 58 wickets to his name.

Besides, the forthcoming 2011 Cricket World Cup, earlier the stadium has anchored World Cup ODI matches in 1987 and 1996.
