The countdown for the much awaited Commonwealth games 2010 has started and the Delhi government in a bid to provide a safe transport mode to people and tourists during this huge event, is planning to launch around 15,000 radio taxis before the Commonwealth Games begins on October 2010. The radio cabs that will be fully operational before the CWG starts will be fully equipped with facilities like Global Positioning System (GPS) and printers so that the vehicles can be monitored constantly and the customers can get automatic billing.
The taxi services will be available round the clock in the National Capital Region (NCR) and Delhi. The charges will be around Rs. 15 per/km. Smt. Sheila Dikshit, the honorable Chief Minister of Delhi, who recently flagged off a new radio taxi service ‘YO Cabs’ said “We are launching our operations with a fleet of 100 cars”.
The Delhi Government is encouraging people to travel in Delhi Transport Corporation buses and radio cabs instead of using personal vehicles.
